Halloween Oreo Sandwich
Spooky Oreo Sandwiches
If Halloween conjures up dreadful images of cranky toddlers not wanting to eat anything other than candies all day, I have something useful to share with you. No force of nature can prevent kids from getting their sugar high during Halloween. Therefore, the wise thing to do is to substitute candies with something less sugary yet more fun. This, coupled with the fact that it is easy to make, crowns the Halloween Oreo Sandwich as the Savior of the day, both for you and your kids.
What is a Halloween Oreo Sandwich?
The Halloween Oreo sandwich took off as a trend simply because it was extremely easy to make, and the results speak for themselves. Imagine an Oreo cookie. All that this recipe does is re-imagine the color scheme of the Oreo to better match the occasion of Halloween. Even though the recipe is simple to make, the idea can be taken much further and scarier if you want to show it off on Social Media. I’ll be keeping my recipe simple and not too scary so as to make it suitable for little kids.
Ingredients at a Glance
This recipe is specifically for 4 to 5 chocolate sandwiches.
Oreo Biscuits – a sleeve of any flavor of Oreos would do. However, I would advise against mixing different flavors of Oreos into one batch. The flavoring compounds, while they taste good individually, can create very off-tasting flavors if they are mixed.
Milk – for 4 to 5 Oreos, you will need just two teaspoons of milk. Make sure you use whole milk. This will help loosen up the cream from the Oreos to a spreadable consistency.
Sprinkles – I have used purple and orange sprinkles in my recipe. You will need about one tablespoon of the sprinkles. You can vary the colors as you wish to match your theme for Halloween.
Candy Eyes – A creative touch can be added with the Candy Eyes. You can put less or more than two eyes per cookie to make it look spookier.
Food Coloring – The most dramatic blood color can be made by mixing three drops of purple and orange food coloring, respectively. Make sure that your food coloring is of the gel type. A water-based food coloring might not mix well with the cream and whole milk. You can also vary the colors and the amounts according to your aesthetics.
How to prepare a Halloween Oreo Sandwich?
To start off, rip open a pack of Oreos and keep the cookies aside in a bowl. In a separate bowl, start separating the biscuits and scrape off the cream into one of these bowls.
In the bowl with the cream, add your milk and food coloring and mix well. The texture of the mix should be at spreadable consistency. You can play with the food coloring until you are satisfied.
To construct the sandwich, place a dollop of the mixed cream between two of the biscuits. please put a smaller dollop on top of the biscuits and place the Candy Eyes. Add the sprinkles on top to finish.
