Mango Salad
Salads are of multiple types. How about some fruity and healthy salad? I recently came upon the most beautiful huge and perfectly ripe Alphonso mangoes! And while there are other ways to enjoy mangoes, this Mango Salad is my personal favorite. This salad has been a favorite of mine for many years.
What is Mango Salad?
Mango salad is a refreshing summer salad loaded with nutrient-dense ingredients and topped with a light oil-free spice dressing. Every bite tastes like a bowl of sunshine. This quick recipe is ready in 15 minutes or less.
Freshly sliced mango is combined with red bell pepper and red onion strips for the salad, which is mixed with fresh basil and cilantro. The dressing is vibrant and fresh with loads of lime juice and zest, the sweetness of mango, and a pinch of heat from green chilis.
This mango salad recipe has a little sweet, a little salty, a little citric, and a touch toasty in every bite – the ultimate flavor explosion!
Notable Ingredients At A Glance
Mango – Mangoes from Alphonso are my favorite. I adore their sweetness, flavor, and delicate floral undertones. This is the yellow mango. If such is unavailable, simply use the best, ripest mangoes you can find around.
Bell Pepper – You can use bell peppers of any color, red, green, or yellow. Bell peppers not only add crunch and texture to the salad but also make it colorful and attractive.
Onion – The purple onions are the best for this recipe. The sweetness of the onions adds up to the taste of the salad.
Dressing – For the salad dressing, I have used lemon juice and homemade roasted spice mix that makes this salad absolutely unique from others.
To prepare the roasted masala, you will require:
- Cumin seeds
- Coriander seeds
- Dried red chilies ( optional)
All the ingredients are dry roasted, cooled, and ground into a fine powder.
Green Chillis – The green chili offer a wonderful spicy edge. Depending on your preferences, reduce, increase, or omit. You can also add red pepper flakes instead of green chilis.
Cilantro – If you don’t like cilantro, use flat-leaf parsley instead. You can use additional basil or mint if you don’t have cilantro.
How To Prepare Mango Salad?
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped mangoes, red bell pepper, onion, lemon juice, roasted masala, green chili, and salt.
Toss them all together and garnish with finely chopped cilantro.
Chill the salad in the refrigerator for one hour and serve. You can also add cucumbers if you like and black beans to this salad.
Enjoy this Mango salad cold or at room temperature with the tortilla.
