This cheese masala toast sandwich will surely make your child ask for more. It is easy to make with few readily available ingredients.

Masala Sandwiches are a tasty street snack consisting of crispy toasted sandwiches seasoned with coriander chutney, loaded with a delightful savory mashed potato stuffing, topped with a few crunchy veggies, then grilled or toasted. These masala toast sandwiches are a famous Indian street food snack.

 

My husband is a chef when it comes to making this cheese masala toast sandwich. This cheese masala toast sandwich is one of the most regular toast recipes he makes for himself. So when I’m out of ideas for morning breakfast, I turn to these toast recipes. In fact, for morning breakfast, I construct the toast dish with any leftover veggies curry with a mix and match of cheese and tomato ketchup.

Bread: I have used white bread in this recipe for the authentic street style version. At the same time, you can use any variety of bread as per your choice.

 

Butter: Butter is needed for toasting the bread. You can use low-fat butter as well.

 

Green chutney: I have used my pre-made green chutney that I make regularly. You can also prepare separate green chutney for this recipe.

 

Vegetables: I personally prefer sandwiches with veggies, so I have used cucumber slices, green bell pepper rings, onion slices, and tomato slices in this recipe.

 

Cheese: I would personally advise using shredded cheddar cheese for this dish rather than mozzarella or any other cheese.

 

Spices: I have used spices chaat masala, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and Asafoetida for the typical Indian flavors.

 

Curry leaves & Coriander leaves: Freshly chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves enhance the flavors of any Indian dish. It is the same for this recipe as well.

 

Potato: Potato is the hero ingredient in this recipe. The spicy mashed potatoes add an authentic taste to this recipe. Golden potatoes are mostly recommended for this recipe.

 

Green chili paste: I add green chili in this recipe because I prefer a spicy version. If you are making it for kids, please skip this ingredient.

 

Ginger: A half teaspoon of ginger while making the potato stuffing adds up the flavor.

 

Lemon Juice: Lemon juice adds acidity to the dish and balances out the flavors.

 

Oil: 2-3 tablespoons of oil is needed for preparing the potato stuffing.

 

How to prepare Cheese Masala Toast Sandwich?

 

First, boil and mash the potatoes and keep them aside.

 

Then in a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard and cumin seeds. Let them splutter and cook for a few seconds over medium heat.

 

Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, and curry leaves, and saute for a few seconds.

 

Add potatoes, ginger, chili paste, and salt, and combine everything properly. Finally, add lemon juices and chopped coriander in it and mix.

 

Once the potato stuffing is ready, take two bread slices, spread butter, and one teaspoon of green chutney on it. Followed by a little potato filling on top.

 

Layer the sandwich with onions, tomato, cucumber, and capsicum ring.

 

Overload the sandwich with grated cheese, cover with the second slice, and sprinkle the chaat masala.

 

Grill the sandwich in a greased sandwich maker or grill pan.

 

Cut the toasted sandwich in half and serve with green chutney and tomato ketchup.

  • To make it more nutritious, you can add any vegetables of your choice.
  • Reduce the spiciness if preparing for children; nonetheless, it tastes fantastic when made spicy.
  • If you don’t want to use butter, simply leave it out or brush some olive oil on the bread slices. You can also use ghee for the butter.

Ingredients

  • 10 slices Bread
  • Butter
  • Green chutney
  • Cucumber slices
  • Green bell pepper rings
  • Onion slices
  • Tomato slices
  • Cheese (grated)
  • Chaat masala
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  • 4 Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Green chilli paste
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 4 medium potato
  • ½ tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Coriander chopped

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes and mash them.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard & cumin seeds.
  3. Sauté for few seconds in medium heat
  4. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder & curry leaves and saute for a few seconds.
  5. Add the potatoes, ginger paste, chilli paste and salt.
  6. Pour in a mixing bowl, add the lemon & coriander and mix.
  7. Take 2 bread slices and add butter and 1 tsp coriander chutney
  8. Add little of potato stuffing and spread
  9. Add the onions,tomato,cucumber and capcicum ring.
  10. Sprinkle cheese.
  11. Add chaat masala and cover with the other slice.
  12. Place the sandwich in a greased sandwich maker or grill pan and grill
  13. Cut in half and apply coriander chutney
