Description

Churmur is a popular Kolkata street food. It is a type of chaat that is crispy, tangy and moderately healthy.

Ingredients

  • 2 Potato – boiled, peeled and cut into 2 cm cubes
  • 1 Onion – medium finely chopped
  • 1 cup Dry Matar (white peas) – soaked overnight, boiled with 2 cups water in a pressure cooker, after one whistle reduce the flame and cook for 10 minutes
  • 1 cup Kala Chana – soaked overnight, boiled with 2 cups water in a pressure cooker, after one whistle reduce the flame and cook for 15 minutes
  • 12 to 15 pieces Paapri
  • 2 Green chili – finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Chat masala
  • 1 tsp Bhaja Masala/Dry roasted masala (take equal quantity of jeera and dhania and 5 to 6 dry red chili, roast them in a frying pan without oil for 2 to 3 minutes or till they give out a nice fragrant aroma. Cool it and grind to a fine powder.)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tbsp Tamarind Chutney
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Coriander

Instructions

  1. In a bowl take the chopped potatoes, matar, chana, onion, dhania, lemon juice, bhaja masala, chat masala, green chili and finely the Paapri.
  2. Crush the paapri with your hands.
  3. Now mix everything well with a spoon.
  4. Add the tamarind chutney and give a good mix.
  5. Serve in individual bowls garnished with some fresh coriander and enjoy.Churmur - A Kolkata Street Food Image

Notes

I have not used any salt as chat masala has lot of salt, in case you feel that salt is less you can add salt as per your taste.
