This vibrant Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl is a thick and creamy pitaya, tropical fruit, and almond milk smoothie. It’s the ideal, healthy way to begin the day with lots of colors and tastes.

What is Dragon Fruit Smoothie?

This dragon fruit smoothie bowl is a quick, simple, and tropical breakfast! This smoothie, also known as a pitaya bowl, is vegan, dairy-free, and gets ready in minutes. The dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, has a mild flavor similar to kiwi or melon, but it adds a gorgeous pink hue to the smoothie. The mango and banana round out the tropical flavor.

Dragon Fruit is a tropical fruit with a bright red (or yellow) exterior and a sweet, speckled pulp on the interior. It has incredible nutritional advantages! It’s high in fiber, has high antioxidants including prebiotics that stimulate your immune system, and boosts iron levels. Dragon fruit is high in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, and magnesium.

So, go and make this easy and colorful breakfast for yourself and your family.

Notable Ingredients at a Glance

Dragon Fruits: In certain places, dragon fruits may be hard to come by. Do not worry, you can use frozen dragon fruits in that case. Sometimes you will even find frozen dragon fruit smoothie packets at your local supermarket. Make sure you use the red-fleshed kind. If you use white flesh, your smoothie will not be as vivid pink.

Bananas: Frozen bananas give a creamy texture to the bowl. Make sure to use fresh ripe bananas with a yellow peel and brown stains all over them. Ripe bananas are sweeter and have the nicest flavor. To freeze a banana, remove the peel and place it in a freezer-safe bag or container, and use it whenever you wish to.

Mangoes: Mangoes offer a tropical flavor that complements dragon fruit. They also contain a lot of vitamin C making the bowl nutrient-rich.

Milk: Use any plant-based milk you like, such as almond milk or coconut milk. You can use dairy milk if you are not on a vegan or dairy-free diet.

Toppings: For toppings, you can use any fruits and nuts of your desire. I have used kiwi, walnuts, and chopped almonds in this recipe. You can also use raspberries or any other berries, coconut, granola, etc.

Some Expert Tips for Preparing Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl

  • Make sure the fruit is completely frozen. If the fruit isn’t completely frozen, the texture won’t be thick and creamy.
  • The trick to making a particularly thick smoothie bowl is to avoid using too much liquid. Don’t be tempted to add anything else.
  • If you want some added sweetness you can add some honey as well or any other natural sweetener.
