Chilli Chicken is a sweet, spicy and slightly sour crispy appetizer made with chicken, bell peppers, garlic, chilli sauce and soya sauce. Its hands down the best dish you can make at home.



Chicken Marination

  • 500gms or 1 pound Chicken – (boneless or boned- in cut into approximately 1-inch cubes)
  • 1 tbsp Dark Soya Sauce
  • 1 tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste – ½ tsp ginger and ½ tsp garlic


  • 1 Onion – large cut into 2cm cubes
  • 6 to 8 Green chillies – slit length wise
  • 1 tsp Ginger – finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic – finely chopped
  • 2 Bell Pepper – cut into 2cm cubes (Red, green or yellow whatever you desire you can use)
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Green Chilli Sauce – (optional, if you like it hot and spicy)
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Salt – (be careful with the salt as soya sauce has lot of salt)
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • ½ cup Water


  1. Heat a wok add oil. Now add chopped ginger, garlic and green chillies and sauté for 2 minutes till the raw smell of ginger and garlic goes.
  2. Now add the chicken pieces and mix everything well. Cook on medium high heat for 2 minutes now add salt, chilli powder and soya sauce. Mix everything well.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sugar. Cook on high heat for 5 to 6 minutes or till the water given out by chicken evaporates.
  4. Now add the bell peppers and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes in medium high.
    Add green chilli sauce. At this stage add some water. Lower the heat to low.

Marinade the chicken with all the above ingredients for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
