Rice is like our daily staple food. But my gym trainer is always after me, saying, “Cut the Curb.” So, how do I full fill my want to have fried rice? So, I came up with this low-carb version of fried rice, quinoa fried rice. Now, I can full fill my cravings, and my gym trainer won’t run after me either.


What is Quinoa Fried Rice?


Quinoa fried rice is nothing but the traditional fried rice that we all love. It is just that we have replaced the rice with quinoa to make it healthier.


A bowl of healthful fried rice prepared with quinoa for the extra protein gets ready in less than 10 minutes. What I like about using quinoa in fried rice is that it automatically adds a ton of protein, fiber, and nutrients without significantly altering the flavor or texture.


Apart from being healthful in itself, this quinoa veggie fried rice can be loaded with whichever vegetables you like. When I cook this quinoa fried rice recipe, I experiment with different vegetables depending on my mood.


This filling, nutritious dish can be packed in lunch boxes or made for a quick lunch or dinner. You may also cook a large batch as dinner prep and reheat when ready to serve, this saves a lot of time. So, if you have a quinoa skeptic in your household, this is the recipe to introduce them to.


Notable Ingredients At A Glance


Quinoa – If you are using leftover quinoa, you can make the entire dish in not more than 10 minutes. However, if you are cooking it ahead of time, you must let it cool entirely before adding your vegetables.


Water – To boil the quinoa.


Vegetables – Add any vegetables to would love to have in your fried rice. I have added carrots, onion, corn kernels, broccoli, and green peas.


Ginger & Garlic – A little ginger and garlic brighten everything up and makes the dish sing.


Seasonings – The seasonings in this recipe make it unique. You will need mint leaves and dry rosemary (or thyme, basils, parsley).


Spices – You will need pepper powder and turmeric powder. Though turmeric is optional, you can only add it if you want to give your fried rice a nice yellow color.


Lemon Juice – Fresh lemon is preferred, but you can also use bottled ones.


Oil – You can use olive oil, sunflower oil, or any other oil of your choice.


How To Prepare Quinoa Fried Rice?


Under running water, carefully wash and rinse the quinoa. Set it aside for ten minutes.


Heat 2 cups of water in a saucepan and add the quinoa as it begins to boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the quinoa until all the water has been absorbed.


This takes approximately 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the cooked quinoa from the heat and set it aside to cool.


Heat the oil in a kadai or a deep, broad pan. Sauté the finely chopped ginger and garlic for 3 to 4 minutes on low heat. Sauté the onions until they are transparent.


Add the vegetables one at a time, starting with the carrots and working your way up to the green peas and corn kernels. Mix in the salt thoroughly. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes on low heat, covered. When the vegetables are done, stir in the pepper powder and rosemary.


Now add the cooked quinoa and combine thoroughly. Cover and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes on low heat to allow the quinoa to absorb all of the flavors.


Your delicious and nutritious Quinoa fried rice is now ready to be served. Serve with greens and raita.

  • If desired, garnish with parsley or chopped green onion.
  • If you want your quinoa fried rice to be saucy. Drizzle with soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or even Sriracha!

Quinoa Fried Rice is very tasty recipe and it is very easy to prepare it. It is super delicious and it is a very flavorful recipe.



  • 1 cup – Quinoa
  • 2 cups – Water
  • 1 medium size – Carrot cut into cubes
  • 1 medium size – Onion finely chopped
  • ½ cup – Corn kernels
  • ½ cup – Green Peas
  • ¼ cup – Mint leaves
  • ½ cup – Broccoli cut into florets
  • 1 tbsp – lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp – Pepper powder
  • ¼ tsp – Turmeric powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp – Garlic cloves finely chopped
  • ½ tsp – Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 tsp – Dry Rosemary (you can use thyme, oregano, basil or parsley)
  • 2 tbsp – Oil
  • 1 tsp – Salt


  1. Wash and rinse the quinoa thoroughly under running water.
  2. Keep it aside for 10 minutes.
  3. Now in a vessel heat 2 cups of water and add the quinoa, once the water comes to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook the quinoa on medium heat till all the water is absorbed. This takes about 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Once the quinoa is cooked, remove it from the heat and keep it aside.
  5. Now heat a kadai add oil. Add the finely chopped ginger and garlic and saute on low heat till the ginger and garlic lose their raw flavour, this takes about 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Add onions and saute till they are translucent.
  7. Add the vegetables one by one, first goes the carrots then the green peas and corn kernels.
  8. Add salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 7 to 8 minutes on low heat.
  9. Once the vegetables are done, add pepper powder and rosemary and mix well.
  10. Now add the cooked quinoa and mix well again.
  11. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 to 4 minutes for the quinoa to absorb all the flavours.
