Ingredients
- 400 gmsPaneer – cut into 2 cm cubes (you can shape the paneer cubes into any size)
- 1 cup Green peas/Matar
- 4 Dry whole red chili
- 1 Onion – medium size roughly chopped
- 4 Tomato – medium size roughly chopped
- 2 Green chili – roughly chopped
- 6 cloves Garlic – finely chopped
- 1 inch Ginger – finely chopped
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala powder (I have used MDH garam masala)
- 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
- ½ cup Coriander leaves
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Salt
- 3 tbsp Mustard oil/Ghee
- 1 cup Water
Instructions
- Let us first soak the dry whole red chilies in hot water for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour drain the water and keep the chilies aside.
- Heat a kadai add 2tbsp oil/ghee.
- Add roughly chopped onions, saute on medium heat for 2 minutes.
- Add salt, finely chopped ginger and garlic and saute on medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes.
- Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder.
- Also add chopped tomatoes and cook on low heat for 5 to 5 minutes till all the water from the tomatoes dry up.
- Once this masala is cooked let it cool.
- Once cooled transfer it to a mixer and grinder, along with dry whole red chiles and make a smooth paste.
- Now heat a kadai and add 1tbsp of oil add 1 tsp of cumin seeds let it splutter now transfer the masala paste to the kadai and fry on low heat till the oil starts to separate out from the masala which will take about 7 to 8 minutes.
- Add the green peas/matar and mix well.
- Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add 1 cup water and bring it to a boil.
- Add the paneer cubes and cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on medium heat.
- Adding 1 cup water will give a thick gravy if you want a runnier gravy add ½ cup water more.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
- Your restaurant style Matar Paneer is now ready to serve, enjoy it with roti paratha or poori.
